Thomas Sweets is 'just right'

If the fairytale sweetheart, Goldilocks, were to visit Thomas Sweets on the corner of Wisconsin and P in Georgetown, she would definitely claim that their ice cream is ‘just right’. It’s not too sweet, not too creamy, and not too cold or hard. Instead, it’s a true delight on the tongue, in the mouth, and on the way down.

Last weekend, with the Goldilocks mantra in mind, I sampled three different ice cream flavors. Mocha chip, bittersweet, and tiramisu. Unlike Goldilocks’ porridge pickiness, I found all three to be ‘just right’ (as did my friend, right photo). I wanted all three. But instead of my usual gluttony, I chose that which would cure my Saturday morning tired eyes…the mocha chip (middle photo above).

T. Sweets' mocha chip concoction transcends ‘just right’: the velvety cocoa-coffee cream base flawlessly juxtaposes countless small, thin, and crisp chocolate rectangles. The chocolate-coffee caffeine combination makes mouths happy and eyes alert. …alleviating the need to also find, as Goldilocks did, a bed that fits similarly to the ice cream: ‘just right’.
